Dear parents,
Another month is nearing its end and preparations for the upcoming events in June is well under way.
In May we finished the theme "Let's Explore!" and began "Animals and Where They Live" in the English curriculum, which was a lot of fun! our K2 levels have begun using a new math workbook that teaches currency and time concepts as well, which is challenging but very rewarding :).
I want to give an advanced thanks to all the participating parents for their hard work in putting together a variety of performances for our Children's Day Celebrations. At the time I am writing this letter we have set up the stage, background and a temporary net to provide shade for our children in case of strong sun, however, looking out the window I can see it has just begun drizzling down, I can only hope that the weather will be pleasant on both Friday's rehearsal and Monday's actual day. We are at the mercy of the weather-gods and this year's event organizer
Ms. Kirsten will keep all performance leaders updated over the weekend if a re-schedule due to bad weather forecast is necessary (Which we sincerely hope is not).
On June 1st & June 2nd in connection with the Children's Day, Obido Educational Toys & Books will host a book fair at our lobby, where parents can purchase good quality toys and books as they bring children to/from school. If your child takes the school bus on regular days, you might consider to come pick him/her up in person one of these days to check out the selection of English language books and get a good offer.
On June 22nd the school will close for "Dragon Boat Festival", which is a traditional Chinese holiday, involving Dragon Boat Races at both Jinji Lake & Lake Taihu as well as customary snacks in the form of sticky rice cakes (Zhong Zi). I wish you a great extended weekend and a successful race, if you are joining the boat races.
To all of the families who have students that will join this year's summer camp I can inform you that we will have 3 groups, PN in room 104, N in room 207 and K1/K2 combined in room 107. The camp will not have academic activities, but will focus on water-play outside in the play plaza with the water-slide (you can bring water pistols and other water-play equipment) as well as role-play/expression activities, music, arts and lots of guided play-time. The Nursery group is already fully occupied, but PN, K1/K2 has a handful of placements left, please contact admissions ASAP if you are still interested.
For all Newton families I would like to let you know that, as something truly special, we are offering an intensive swimming program for all N, K1 & K2 students, regardless of whether or not they are signed up for the summer camp program (summer camp children are of course very welcome to join the intensive swimming program as well) with our wonderful and professional coaches. There should be a notice with further information being sent out these days as well.
Summer Concert rehearsals have commenced and our wonderful teachers and students are excited to put together a great show for you on June 26th at the SIPYCC theater where our K2 students will graduate, receive diploma's and where students will perform musical, drama and dance performances across all levels (Invitation will follow in the coming weeks).
Have a wonderful Children's Day & month of June.
