Dear parent,
The 2017/2018 school year is off to a flying start! Our 3 new pre-nursery classes have settled in nicely and throughout the past week, initial morning tears have subsided and the joy of coming to kindergarten is showing. It is such a powerful and crucial experience for children to learn, that they can make friends and feel safe even away from home. It is often an experience that is met with both a joyous and a doubtful feeling by both the children and parents, as they realize they are capable of saying goodbye, see you later and stay separated for a longer period of time. We kindly ask all new parents to remember, your children are as brave as you are. If you are worried, they are worried. If you have a hard time saying goodbye in the morning, so will they. It is not only new students that might find the beginning of a new year to be a bit of a challenge, we are moving class-rooms and being introduced to new friends and new teachers. All happening after a 1 month holiday with our parents. I think for most of us, parents and children, coming back after the summer holiday need a little transition time.
However, to ease this period teachers are inviting parents to come in and have a personal talk about their child's life in kindergarten. This year, the class meetings are individually scheduled per family and you will be able to share impressions and stories from home as well as hear about your child's life in class. It is an important meeting, especially now in the beginning of the school year, to build a relation between parents and teachers, to communicate and trust each other in both the challenges and successes that are to come throughout the year.
For new families attending Hui Xin campus, I would like to take this chance to inform you that we adopted an employee social media policy in 2012 as a guide of how we expect staff to conduct themselves professionally in public forums. However, it is also the parents of Newton Kindergartens who need to consider the appropriateness of photos or text messages they take and share.
Reminder about taking and sharing of photos & videos within Hui Xin campus
Newton kindergartens do not allow teachers and staff taking personal pictures of students and posting them to their social media accounts. As you know, teachers are also not allowed to have their personal phones on them. As part of the practice in kindergarten, it is important that the institution and family respect and follow a similar moral standard. Consistency is key in creating the best environment for growing children. With this we ask that parents also please adhere to common respectful behavior.
For privacy and respect please do not take pictures of other students, and do not post them to any social media. Each family deserves to take and post whatever pictures they like of themselves, but it is not acceptable to post of others. With social media such a prominent part of our daily lives it is easy to forget that it is still a platform necessary of boundaries. Newton prides itself on maintaining international standards for our staff and families. Please take this as a friendly yet serious reminder to respect the privacy of others and be aware of what you post in social media.

Reflecting upon last year's sports days we learned that trying to schedule 4 days (PN, N, K1 & K2) of sports days with nice weather proved difficult, with forecasts of rain we had to re-schedule 3 of the events twice. This year, to better our chances we are scheduling events on 2 days only, on October 17th and 18th where PN & N will be in the morning from 9:30 & K1 & K2 in the afternoon from 13:15. K1 & K2 is non-mandatory for parents to join, but for PN & N we require parents participation. Due to PN & N children's young age we require parents involvement, as to make the games successful and fun. By parents example, our youngest always gets a little bit braver and is willing to more "easily" part-take in the activities. We are crossing our fingers and wishing that the ladybugs will favor our plead for good weather to celebrate this sporty occasion.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE COMING MONTH(S):
- From/to & Incl. September 30th - October 8th: National October Holiday. (see you back on Monday October 9th)
- October 17th & 18th: Sports Days. (PN & N mandatory to join or keep student at home, notice follows)
- October 25th: All levels fieldtrips. (All levels mandatory to join or keep student at home, notice follows)
We wish all of our wonderful families and teachers an amazing upcoming national, October holiday with what will hopefully be many days full of comfortable heat, sun and blue skies.
