Dear parents,
What an exciting month, Pre-nursery and Nursery went on Spring Fieldtrips to the Teddy Bear Farm, K2 visited elementary schools SSIS & CISK in their preparation for next year, we took class-photos and graduation photos all the while working hard on getting everything ready for this year's Summer Concert "This is Me!". "This is Me!" centers around a kindergartener who reminisces her time at Newton and the friends she made while she prepares for the beginning of something new, going to elementary school!. As always, the story and theme of the year's Summer Concert is composed by K2 teachers as a team with Ms. Celia as the head writer and designer this year. The Summer Concert's are a big collaborative effort between the entire Hui Xin team as we come together to create lasting memories for our amazing families here. Our children have two more weeks left to practice, before the show is on. However, luckily, it is parents turn first to put on a show for all of us on "Children's Day".
Children's Day is celebrated at different dates throughout the world, but June 1st is the most popular. "Children's Day" is originally an observance of children's welfare and rights with the aim to put an end to child labor, children abuse and establish mandatory education for children. In recent years children's rights have become greater and more protected and it is easy for us to forget what the world was like just 50 years ago. Luckily, now is a great time to be a child, children are cherished and loved. Most have access to proper healthcare and child labor is illegal by law in most of the world. Children's Day has become more of a celebration of childhood and as such, it is of course you, our amazing parents who are putting on a show for our children! Over the past weeks we have seen countless groups come to practice and at the rehearsal on May 31st we got a glimpse of what is in store for all of us on June 1st. I can't wait to see everyone dress-up and have fun! You're the best!
Children's Day Gift :
This year, in going with the theme of "Environmental Awareness" and "No Plastic", we have been looking for alternatives to typical children's day gifts, such as footballs, color markers, balloons etc. In the process we considered aluminum water-bottles, but decided not to purchase things that most children already have, as it would also be an unnecessary waste.
Therefore, under great consideration, we have chosen a gift that gives, grows and needs taken care of. Every Newton student is receiving green miniature potted trees and plants in natural terracotta pots in an environmentally friendly paper bag with a nature material name-tag.
We hope that you will help teach your children the value of watering, giving sunshine and taking care of something as alive and giving as a tree/plant. After all, trees and plants give us air to breathe, shelter, cover from the rain and sun, heat in winter, beautiful blossoms in spring and some even grow fruits for us to eat!
IMPORTANT CALENDAR CHANGE: Due to a scheduling conflict relating to a dress-rehearsal at the SIPYCC theater for Summer Concert, we have to move the scheduled non-mandatory "Dragon Boat Event" up one day from June 15th to June 14th. We kindly ask all parents or grandparents who wish to join the "making Zhong Zi" event at school, to contact teachers directly and we apologize for any inconvenience the date change might cause.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE COMING MONTH(S):
