This week at Hui Xin campus we arranged a campaign titled "My feet takes me many places".
Students would bring a pair of too small or no longer used shoes to school (parent and sibling sizes too) and talk about places they have visited or fun activities they have done while wearing the shoes. At the end of the social lesson students would wish for their old shoes to still keep going places, by donating to children in need of better footwear in Guizhou province.
With the "Donate A Shoe" and "Donate A Book" campaign the Newton Charity Fund in cooperation with the Suzhou Mandarin Rotary Club aim to help families, schools and children in the rural area of Guizhou province with good shoes and books for reading. At the moment of writing we have currently collected more than 600 pairs of shoes and boots together with more than 200 kg of books.
This charity campaign is particularly beneficial as a social and environmental exercise as Newton teachers and parents teach students the value and importance of caring for others in need, while sharing something that might not otherwise be re-used.
