The annual charity drive is one of Newton’s traditional events and has been for the last 12 years. Teachers and children make lanterns, couplets, rattle drums, bells, masks, paintings and decorations to make the kindergarten feel filled with Chinese culture. All of the children’s work is sold and donated to the charity.
Chefs make traditional treats like: spring rolls, dumplings, Tangyuan and Baobao congee that is also sold and donated to the charity.
Teachers and children perform Chinses singing, dancing, rap…. Huixin campus promoted Mu Gui Ying puppet show after their lion, dragon, fortune god and money king performance. Through these events the children get to know the traditional Chinese figures and their importance.
Local shops, restaurants, educational institutions, companies, and Newton suppliers also joined the event to contribute to the charity
The charity drives of 2019 were a big success and the 3 compuses raised 133007 in total.
It’s a happy and meaningful event and after all it’s so Chinese. We love China.
