The Newton "Festival of Colors", which takes place during the colorful and sunny Spring season highlights the wonderful characteristics and diversities that exist around the world. It is an event that takes place every year at Newton kindergarten and embodies our philosophy of openness, acceptance and full inclusion. During this celebration children explore foreign cultures and learn through our multi-cultural and diverse theme activities. In the process of learning about the world that surrounds us students increase their international understanding and love of the world's cultures.
Festival of Colors philosophy / Embracing the World
"Let's Embrace the World" is the main concept of the Festival of Colors theme week and in order to teach the values of openness, acceptance and full inclusion we read stories, looked at buildings, explored traditions, languages, culture, food, customs and music from around the world.Although we live in different countries, speak different languages and have different skin, hair and eye color we share the same universal beliefs of family, friendship and love.
Both Newton campus' prepared a variety of fun activities and creations. Children had fun making unique arts and crafts, singing, dancing and joining games popular from a wide selection of countries.
Festival of Colors
On the 17th of March, St. Patrick’s Day originating from Ireland was observed and children were invited to find green items and bring to school. On the day, children dressed in green with matching hair bands and ribbons. Teachers shared the origin of St. Patrick's Day with kids, explained to them why this day is related to the color green and everyone made shamrocks and dwarf elves among other lucky charms. The playground was filled with laughter and song as we danced lively and waved ribbons. With the magic and mystery of something cultural and new, the entire Newton campus grew more and more vibrant, in symphony with the colorful Spring season.
Multi Cultural Clothing / Colors of the World
Costumes and clothing from around the world represent a truly visual way of expressing heritage and culture during the "Festival of Colors" event. It is also a way for both students and teachers to express their nationality and ethnicities in a way that is both appreciated and admired by their friends and colleagues. Spring is at the doorstep withits lush greens and blossoming flowers. Children are playing and confidently telling their stories, with the whole world as their stage.
