SEPTEMBER LETTER

Dear parents,
I would like to thank all of you for an amazing beginning of the year. With the nice air-quality and weather we have been having, outside play has been a bliss and our new slides have certainly become a favorite among our children.
We are currently in the middle of our class-meetings and I have been very happy to see many parents coming in to support their class and teachers. I have been able to have talks with many of you whose children take advantage of the school bus on regular days and it has been really nice to catch up. I hope we will continue the amazing communication throughout the entire semester!

Fruit and vegetable coolers in every class:
From September 5th, Newton Hui Xin campus introduced fresh fruits and vegetable coolers in all class-rooms. The cooler has been a big success from the first day and through the principle of serving "finger snacks" of apple slices, cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes children have developed a fantastic routine of cleaning hands, selecting the fruit of choice, asking teacher and enjoying it directly, without any need for a bib in pre-nursery even. Children and adults alike often experience mid-meal cravings for something fresh, by not tending to this hunger it can affect our mood, which is more true in the case of young children. The coolers in each class-room provide students with an option of enjoying water time together with a small healthy snack or if the breakfast / lunch / snack leaves a little extra room, children can ask teachers for more fruits or veggies, just as at home. With the aim of creating the most happy environment possible, we do not only focus on activities and play-equipment, but very much on the children's nutrition and general awareness of choices. The new blue coolers with fruits and vegetables is another exercise in independent choice making, with a healthy and nutritious benefit.
Rain boots & raincoats:
As something new this school year all students have raincoats and rain boots at school, which can be worn on days with a little rain or wet grass outside. The addition to the uniform items allows us to keep daily routines of outside play and morning exercise and it also presents children with a unique learning opportunity. To feel how nature changes, its more vibrant colors, smell and texture when wet and to enjoy a sense of capable responsibility as we get dressed and brave into the outdoors together with our trusted teachers and friends. September 14th was one of the first days where our philosophy of "more outside time" was put to the test and with a glorious and resounding "yes, we like it!" children had fun outside and we suspect there has been a lot of happy stories told already.
Finally
As something very important I would like to let you know that our uniform department is kindly asking parents who wish to order winter uniform items for the future, to go ahead and place orders at this time, so we can keep stock for 2017 early. You will receive order forms throughout the coming week!
Reminders:
- The school will close for National Holiday from/incl. Saturday the 1st to/incl. Sunday the 9th of October. We look forward to welcome everyone back again on Monday the 10th of October.
- Sports Days will be held on the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st of October. Notice will follow, but if you want to arrange early, you can get your class' particular schedule from your class-teachers.
- Autumn fieldtrips will take place on October 26th, Destinations will be announced on future notice.
