Dear parents,
First of all I would like to welcome all our new families, but also our new teachers, some are transfers from other Newton branches and others are fresh off the plane from foreign countries. A special mention goes out to Mr. Milos, US teacher from Bayside campus, Ms. Blaire from Shangjun campus as well as Ms. Lena from Bayside campus and Ms. Jessie from Zhangjiagang campus, all of whom I have personally worked with and got to know over the years. I am proud and happy to welcome all of you to the Hui Xin campus family.
We have spent the last two weeks preparing for the start of school, completing curriculum training, teambuilding and getting to know each other. I must say, I have rarely had a better feeling before the start of school. A lot of high energy, highly motivated and experienced teachers ready to make this year, the best yet!
Over the summer, we have been busy making upgrades to our class-rooms and facilities. Every class-room has been equipped with industry leading air-cleaners from "foundation", which take in air from the outside, cleans it and create a positive pocket of clean, pm2.5, co2 and odor free air. Throughout the previous year, we have tested individual air-purifiers from Austin, Lexy and Blueair, as well as the larger industrial units from "foundation" and found the latter to be superior.
One of the first things you will see as you enter the school, is the playground and play-plaza additions, which now feature a play-ship (which was installed before the summer) as well as an attached slide that leads to the middle of the grass-terraces which can be used throughout the entire year. Further, a second slide for the summer, which works as a water-slide runs to the bottom of the play-plaza and into a pool. At the bottom a new sand-play and water-experiment area has been constructed, both perfect additions to our water-canal and sand-play areas on the ground floor.
This year, marks the opening of the 4th floor class-rooms, built for the K2 age-group, these rooms are bright and feature a unique design with custom made stairs and loft area within the class-room where students can socialize, read books and bond. For 4th floor K2 parents with young children or those with bad knees, the elevator next to accounting room # 106 will be operated during drop-off and pick-up times and provide you with a more convenient lift option.
For families of school bus children we will be issuing "red tags", which you are required to put on your child's school bag before morning pick-up, if your child will not take the bus home in the afternoon. This standard practice will help prevent missed communication and automatically inform the "on-bus" supervisor as well as the teacher back at school. However, kindly do write a line in your child's book as well.
Finally, I want to urge all families who are new here and those with new teachers, to take an extra moment in the beginning to get to know your teachers because as both a teacher and parent myself, I know the importance of communication and trust. It is a fundamental part of ensuring positive team-work, which only happens when we invest the necessary time to get to know each other first.
Throughout this year at Hui Xin campus our mission goal is to become the best "communicators" we can be!
Sincerely,
Anders S Christensen, principal
and the Newton team!
