Dear parents,
What an amazing month! April always starts with a laugh as we observe "April fool's day" and its inclination towards fun, yet somehow unbelievable stories. We invite parents to spot the fun news update on our website's temporary link http://internewton.com.suzhoutong.cn/hxj (our new website is undergoing tests for consistency, before becoming www.internewton.com/hxj later this month). Coming back after the tomb sweeping holiday, we had prepared a surprise for students as they found a brand new and beautiful train station for the campus train. The train station is located on the north side of the campus, outside of room 104 where children can peek through the display window and see their favorite vehicle, the train! parked on rainy days in it's beautiful shelter.
Looking back on March I once again have to thank our wonderful and supportive parents for making this year's Festival of Colors so colorful. With more than 100 families joining over the course of 2 weeks we explored countries & cultures such as France, Korea, Malaysia, Germany, USA, Italy and learned about Sichuan, Beijing, Chinese puppetry, Asian Dragon's, The origin of Chocolate and much more, it was stunning!. I also wish to thank parents for taking part in the campus survey forms, we appreciate your feedback and will call-back parents who do not have the campus' management contact information in the coming week. On March 25th we hosted parent-teacher meetings. The meetings were not mandatory to join but we saw a participation rate above 80% per class. Even though teachers and parents do prefer regular talks at drop-off or pick-up from campus it was an important and valued meeting where teachers and parents shared progress about children's life at kindergarten. As an extension of our cooperation with parents, we like to continue the on-site seminars for parents (see below).
We invite parents to join "How to play with your children; Using play to develop sensory stimulation"
seminar conducted by OT Therapist Ms. Grace Tseng from Olivia's Place, Shanghai. The session will take place in the campus theater on April 12th from 14:30 - 15:30 in English (RSVP to your teachers no later than April 10th if you wish to join). Parents from SSIS and Dulwich are invited to join the seminar as well on behalf of Ms. Penny Fan, School Relations Manager from LIH Olivia's Place.
In the coming weeks, the campus' class and teacher arrangements for the coming school year of 2017/2018 will be published and you will be informed by your teachers and by notice in your child's communication book in case of changes. As a kindergarten that believes in diversity we employ both male and female teachers and aim to present children with awareness of gender roles and for them to be inspired by multiple teachers and their unique skills in their time at kindergarten. While male teachers do not teach pre-nursery classes, we do use male teachers from nursery level and up. Additionally, as we move towards strengthening children's independence we have many cross-level events, fieldtrips, outings, play-time and enrichment activities at campus with the aim for students to expand their friends group to include children not just within their class, but in their level and beyond. As in any international school we will at times, be combining or mixing classes together, typically between the K1 & K2 levels.
Reminders from school:
1) The weather is getting more mild and the season has come for us to go outside no matter the weather. We kindly ask parents to remember that since August, 2016 the rain clothes, boots and coats is a mandatory part of the school uniform as it allows us to go outside on days with minor drizzle and explore the fantastic feeling of nature. Please help your teachers to make sure your child's rain clothes is always on hand at school. If you borrow it to go back home, please always remember to return it to class the following day as we cannot predict when the children needs it.
2) The school will close for Labor Day holiday from/including April 29th to/including May 1st. See you back on May 2nd.
3) Class teachers will be inviting parents to take part in this year's Children's Day by helping to assign leaders and offer assistance in preparation (notice will follow)
Wishing you an amazing spring season!. If you have a chance, please notice the Cherry Tree blossoms at our north garden.
Sincerely,
Anders S Christensen, principal and the Hui Xin team!
