Dear parents & students welcome back!
It's August and it is the beginning of another school year at Hui Xin campus! As I am writing, teachers, assistants, caregivers and kitchen/cleaning staff has returned to work from their holidays and are busy preparing class-rooms, planning lessons and building their teams. Looking at the calendar, I am reminded that our Hui Xin campus will soon celebrate its 3 year anniversary, though it feels as just last year we moved here! I am happy to say that it has been a great 3 years and that our home is looking better than ever!
As announced before the holiday, we have finished improvements on several campus facilities over the summer, including a bigger and better sandbox/water play area by 107 on the ground floor, a re-design of the B-Level LEGO room, which is ready to open for enrichment classes again in September. We have raised the ceiling in the library and re-organizing book storage to let more natural light in, made a wooden cover for the sandbox in the B-level as well as kept up the classes by fixing and mending walls and spot-painted to present your children with a fresh, bright and well-kept school environment. We aim to keep both our environment and program at a consistent high level and are proud of our campus!
Every beginning of school year we go through year plans and begin to map out the direction of the school moving forward. We set a course towards improving ourselves on a specific value, such as improving communication(s) in order to achieve better transparency or this year, to strengthen social values and improve behavioral patterns through integrity and commitment. Integrity is defined as the quality of being both honest and fair while holding oneself to a consistent moral standard. Commitment is dedication towards a certain cause or standard.
In other words, we should be honest, fair, keep a good standard and be committed to a cause. Our cause is improving students social values, making sure that everyone knows how to treat their friends nicely and to be a sincere friend. Teachers will continue to develop a culture where class-mates focus on courtesy, saying good morning / goodbye, knowing how to give compliments, show appreciation to others and most importantly, students will be taught replacement skills to change a wrong to a right, not simply by saying empty words "I am sorry" but e.g. by making an apology card to their friend and spending a few minutes to reflect while making something real, hands-on to show regret in the form of a card, is a wonderful rewarding social replacement skill.
On this note of social commitment, I would like to warmly welcome new families and students of PN-204, PN-206, PN-306 and N-304. I know how daunting it can be for both our new children and parents to say goodbye and worry "if this is normal?". However, both our teachers and I have been through this process many times and luckily, "it is normal" right now for new kindergarteners to cry, resist and refuse change. In 2-3 weeks, the new normal will be that children might not want to go home when you come to pick them up. Please do not worry, our teachers will guide your children in this change. To prepare yourself, please read the Meet & Greet letter from the campus nurse "First Years: Physical and Emotional Development", which can also be found on our website www.internewton.com/hxj.
