Dear parents, it's been a cold month! The ABC pond froze over last week and we had lots of fun trying to break the ice. Today the weather is warmer and we sincerely hope that it stays this way for the upcoming Charity Drive (with the exception of soft gentle snow of course).
As many of you know from previous year's, the Charity Drive is a special event at Hui Xin campus, where we transform the school campus into a market place. You and your children can join activities in the various activity rooms, but remember that all children must be accompanied by adults and that the campus closes at 12:00 for clean-up (no school bus). Since we are closed for regular school services, we do not require guests to bring their entrance ID cards on the day. Visitors can explore the market, see children's performances (starts at 9:30), purchase fruits, vegetables, books, hot and cold drinks and enjoy traditional dragon, lion and drum performances. At the entrance of the campus, you will be welcomed by campus management and volunteer parents, who kindly ask you to make a donation for the Charity Fund. Last year we were able to help a little girl named Sisi Zhang, with her cancer treatments at the Suzhou Children's Hospital and we hope to be able to continue providing help, to those who need it the most (if you are aware of any children/families in need, please email me at anders@internewton.com and I will make a request to the Charity Fund).
At Friday's Charity Drive, we will be visited by 4-5 dogs from the Animal Shelter. Families who wish to adopt a dog, take really good care of it and give it lots of love, can meet with representatives from the shelter and talk about the process and the requirements for adopting a dog and what that particular dog needs. Please read more about 4 of the dogs by clicking this link >> ADOPT A DOG.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE COMING MONTH(S):
- January 19th: Charity Drive at campus from 8:00 - 11:30 (no regular school services on the day)
- January 27th & February 3rd: Parent/teacher meetings (invitations sent out by teachers already)
- February 9th: Parents & Grandparents are invited in to join the "Dumpling-A-Thon" at campus. (Non-mandatory participation). It's also a Spirit Day where students can choose to wear uniform or seasonal red/golden clothes to school.
- February 10th-25th (from/to & including): The whole school will close for the Spring Festival holiday.
We are saying goodbye to the year of the Rooster and we are welcoming the new year of the Dog. The dog is the eleventh in the 12-year cycle of Chinese Zodiaz signs (1958, 1970, 1982, 2006 and this year). Dog is man's friend, the dog can understand the human spirit and obeys its master. Its strengths are being valiant, loyal, responsible, clever and courageous. The Chinese regard it as an auspicious animal, if a dog visits a house, it symbolizes the coming of fortune and the invincible God Erland in Chinese legend used a loyal wolfhound to capture monsters.
I very much look forward to the celebrations on Friday, January 19th and to welcome the new year of the dog!
