Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 18th, 2018 and was celebrated during the week of June 11th - 14th at Hui Xin campus. Students decorated traditional wooden paddles and painted dragon boats to put in the foyer's water display. The Dragon Races, paddles and beating of the drum symbolize unity as only the team who acts as one can win the races.
What is Dragon Boat Festival? There are many takes on the Dragon Boat Festival which is celebrated in different ways around the world. Wearing a scented pouch, an egg, tying five-colored silk thread and hanging mugwort leaves above your door are all typical rituals which honors either Wu Zixu, Cao E or Qu Yuan who passed away on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month.
The most popular interpretation of the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, known as Duanwu and Tuen Ng Festival is in memory of a famous poet by the name Qu Yuan, who was exiled by the king of Chu who drowned in the Milou river in Hunan Province. At the time, it is said that rowers raced to find his body and threw sticky rice cakes known as Zongzi into the river, to keep the water dragon away.
Weather: Cloudy weather with showers is predicted for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The temperatures will be between 19 - 30 degrees Celsius.
