Dear parents & students welcome back!
Another school year is about to start and while the weather is baking our painted outside walls of the campus; teachers, assistants, caregivers and kitchen/cleaning staff have returned to work from their holidays and are busy preparing class-rooms, planning lessons and building their teams. Each class-room has a team built and have come up with unique fundamental values, shaped in a motto which they will work to honor throughout the 2018/2019 school year.
Throughout the weeks of closure our campus has gone through maintenance work and beautification and we have kept up the classes by fixing and mending walls and spot-painted to present your children with a fresh, bright and well-kept school environment.
I warmly welcome new families and students of PN-206, PN-306 and N-104, N-204, N-205 & N-304. For many children, this will not only be their first time in a kindergarten, but also their first time away from home and their first time to be part of a larger group of children. There are many social/emotional milestones that will be met in the next months and while your children's capacity to adapt is put to the test the likelihood of tearful goodbye's is but a certainty. However, do not worry, rest assured that your child's reactions are normal. It is important that your child is allowed to go through the full range of emotions they experience in the transitioning phase; happy to play with new toys, excited to explore a playground, stimulated to communicate with teachers and peers, yet frustrated to share toys and sad to say goodbye to parents. In time your children will be excited to come to school, eager to learn new things and proud of themselves for growing and becoming more independent. In 2-3 weeks, the new normal will be that children might not want to go home when you come to pick them up. Please do not worry, our teachers will guide your children through the entire adjustment phase.
New parents sending children off to kindergarten for the first time will go through a range of emotions, too. We encourage parents to be strong, confident and trust the natural process of your child. You can help both your child and yourself by following a good daily routine, read stories that deal with the full range of emotions, teach compassion to all living things e.g. animals, encourage communication and be consistent in your education and care at home (bath-time, sleep-time, goodnight stories, allow time to and expect your child to do things they are able to independently e.g. changing shirt, shoes, brushing teeth etc.).
To prepare yourself, please read the Meet & Greet letter from the campus nurse "First Years: Physical and Emotional Development", which can also be found on our website www.internewton.com/hxj.
To everyone, I hope that you will take the chance to get to know your teachers better, help them to know your children's life at home and share any fun adventures you might have been on over the summer. We will work to keep a high standard of communication and trust between school-home and teacher-parents.
