Dear parents,
What an amazing month and in particular beautiful last week before the October holiday. The weather has become comfortable and the AQI is low, most days with clean air to play outside more. In our garden we are growing garlic, cabbage & turnips which should be ready to harvest at the end of the Autumn. In the Hui Xin library our, mini-stage has been finished and the LEGO room will be getting a new and comfortable carpet over the holidays.
September was an eventful month, with the first parent-teacher meetings of the school year and Teachers Day on the 11th. About the Teacher's Day and the campus rule of not giving financial gifts to teachers I was very proud to see the creative and beautiful ways that children and parents showed appreciation to our amazing teachers (I have included a photo of a great "Thank you for always BEE-ING there!" card on the right).
On September 21st, we celebrated the "Mid-Autumn" festival at the campus and our K1 & K2 students made moon cakes with Bobby, the campus chef, in the kitchen (you can see one of the nicely pressed moon cakes to the right).
On Saturday, September 22nd The International Children's Hospital in SIP invited Newton parents to a seminar about allergies, ADHD and Shortsightedness at The Shilla hotel and again I was proud to learn from Ms. Anna, the campus nurse, that many families participated.
On Friday, September 28th our K2 classes started a design & architecture project titled "My Dream House" with associate professor Ms. Christiane M. Herr and her design students from XJTLU, Suzhou who will create impressive drafts, scale models and big sized cardboard houses based on our very own K2 students creative drawings and ideas. On November 9th we will visit the XJTLU campus and inspect the 40 "Dream Houses" as inspired by our imagination.
Starting from Theme #2 "Staying Well, Staying Safe", families will be receiving a theme overview from English curriculum writer Ms. Tarryn Bohlken. It allows you to understand the concept of what your children are going to learn in the coming themes and to bridge that with your home education as well. During the "Staying Well, Staying Safe" theme, your children will among other things be learning the importance of good oral hygiene and how to brush teeth properly. In relation we have invited dentists from "LL Dental" to come to our campus and teach each class together with your teachers. The clinic will also be giving a seminar to parents on Monday, October 29th and offer a special free of charge dental check and 1/2 price cleaning for all Newton students including their mothers, fathers and siblings (find attached notice in the communication books for more details or click PDF -> Dental Check & Cleaning offer for Newton families)
