Dear parents,
The season is changing right in front of us as green leaves turn yellow, orange and brown. The play-plaza is covered in a blanket of warm autumn colors and fallen leaves are floating in the pond while the scent of Osmanthus surrounds us. On warm days, we are still reminded by the memories of summer and on colder days we prepare ourselves for winter. In this changing season, it is important to know one's body and dress according to the day's weather and take off and put on layers to stay comfortable.
From Monday, October 29th we begin the English theme #3 "Everything Changes", very befitting the season and current weather. From theme #4, we will no longer be sending home print-outs, but you can find theme overviews on our website www.internewton.com/hxj under educational news.
On Monday, October 29th, dentists from "LL Dental Clinic" will be hosting a 25 minute bi-lingual presentation about "Dental Hygiene" to Newton parents in our theater from 15:00 - 15:25. I warmly welcome all parents to join and learn the proper techniques. Likewise, dentists from "LL Dental" will be visiting all class-rooms and teach our students and staff the importance and proper ways to brush! On this note, I wish to remind parents to change toothbrushes more frequently (every 2 months) as it is very difficult to clean the bristles of a toothbrush without risking contamination. If possible, look for environmentally friendly alternatives to the cheap non-recyclable toothbrushes.
Newton head chef Mr. Bobby Bao and campus nurse Ms. Anna Hu invites parents and grandparents to share food recipe's of their "children's favorite meals" either by email to nurse-hxj@internewton.com or arranging a cooking class in person after 15:45 where we can share our passion in cooking.
Halloween is fast approaching and while it is a great time to dress up as our favorite characters, many costumes come with weapons or weapon like accessories which encourage, to some degree, a "pretend fight". The campus management firmly believes that proper social skills in kindergarten do not involve building or using weapons, swords or pointing fingers and saying pow! pow!. Please keep all these items at home or better yet, do not buy them in the first place. Please also do not send realistic looking water guns to school as we have removed several brought to campus during the summer camp for water play which were left with the water-play equipment. If your child is missing a water gun, please contact vice-principal Ms. Jessie on jessie@internewton.com to have it returned.
This week, we experienced one morning where the AQI peaked at 221 PM2.5 at around 9:00, which is an indication of the poor air quality returning in the colder months. Please consider letting your children wear face masks to school or to purchase directly through campus nurse by emailing nurse-hxj@internewton.com or calling ext. 8102. Together with the changing weather, it is again time to remind parents to check children from home (use the check-form in the communication book) before sending your children to school. If you child show symptoms or signs of a virus or contagious illness please see a physician right away and inform the campus nurse or your teachers immediately. At the beginning of this week, one nursery class was quarantined as it experienced 8 students absence. We thank parents for informing us early and allowing us to make necessary arrangements.
On October 25th the big autumn fieldtrips to "Shanfang Shan Zoo", "Changzhou Dinosaur Park" & "Disneyland" were held. With a slight promise of rain we experienced a great day with sun, comfortable temperatures and only a few drizzles. The majority of parents arrived at the bus waiting areas with time to spare and we were mostly able to leave as scheduled. However, I wish to remind a minor group of parents who were a few minutes late to consider the whole bus full of children and parents that are waiting just for you. Please be on time in the future.
On Friday, October 19th K2 classes at Hui Xin campus worked together with architect & design students from XJTLU in a joint "Dream House" project. Ms. Christiane M. Herr, Associate Professor and program director of architectural engineering gave a presentation about "Architecture & Design" in the campus theater, where after K2 children had to draw their most fun and creative "Dream Houses". XJTLU students then took the drawings and concepts to develop their own unique, creative and fun child friendly houses. First with small scale cardboard models at Hui Xin campus and later with large scale models at XJTLU's campus. K2 students had a ton of fun exploring the imaginative buildings and their features in this cool collaboration! Thank you Ms. Christiane and students from XJTLU for building our dream houses! We look forward to see you next time at your campus.
I kindly ask all parents & grandparents to stay updated by checking the communication book daily, reading articles on our website and checking the yearly calendar in the communication books.
