Dear parents,
On this nice and sunny Friday at the very end of October we celebrated "Halloween" and while the emphasis was on creative and imaginative dress-up the children had fun playing interesting Halloween games and going on "Pumpkin Hunts" around campus.
At arrival in the morning students were greeted by Newton staff wearing orange face-masks and costumes. We had rolled out the orange carpet for arriving counts, witches, fairies and super-hero's to walk on while balloon pumpkins and cute floating ghosts were welcoming our guests on this very Happy Halloween.
At school, the theater had been transformed into a room with dimmed lights, spider-webs and moody sounds of wind through tree branches where older students went looking for pumpkins and hidden cards.
K1 classes assembled a team-made "skeleton" out of rolled up newspaper pieces, Nursery made clay spiders with pipe cleaners as legs and many more fun activities, such as "Broom-stick pumpkin relay" and "Mummy Bowling" took place at campus in substitution of the usual "Trick or treating".
Many families had made costumes from home and among the nominees for this year's most outstanding home-made costume was Bale from N-202 in his Airplane, Anna from N-207 with a wonderfully decorated Chicken Hat, Jay from K2-307 as a Zombie/Scare-crow with a bucket hat, Yi Ting from N-205 as a delicious slice of Pepperoni Pizza and Simba from N-104 as a very green ogre named Shrek!... but the winner this year was Noah from K1-303 in his home-made "Up" costume featuring a cardboard house and a bouquet of floating balloons.
It was a warm, beautiful and cherished day with happy teachers and children having a great deal of fun together!
Happy Halloween
Monster Mash by Bobby Pickett
I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
He did the monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
It caught on in a flash
He did the monster mash
From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes
They did the monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
It caught on in a flash
They did the monster mash
The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolfman,
Dracula, and his son
The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"
They played the monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
It caught on in a flash
They played the monster mash
Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
Opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"
