Mid-Autumn Festival - Learning about the ancient traditions
Mid-Autumn and the full moon
Each traditional festival has its own cultural heritage and origin.
What is the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival?
Do Chang'e and the Jade Rabbit really live on the moon?
Why is the moon sometimes crescent and sometimes round?
Festivals come alive through storytelling and through the stories of Mid-Autumn Festival and the moon children learned the origin of the Mid-Autumn celebrations, the ancient rituals of sacrificing to the moon, worshipping the moon, appreciating lanterns and eating mooncakes, along with the scientific understanding of the moons changing phases.
From the stories, games and educational videos the customs of the festival and the science behind the moon became easy to understand.
Mid-Autumn Festival - Creative Artworks
Creating unique and beautiful lanterns.
As children admire the beautiful lanterns a resounding “wow” coming from our impressed children filled the school.
Cute paper cup lanterns made by the pre-nursery children, rabbit-shaped lanterns made by the nursery children, moon lanterns made by K1 students or the landscape painting styled lanterns made by K2 children were handmade with enthusiasm, joy and now hung around campus with best wishes and holiday greetings.
Mid-Autumn Festival - Fun Games
A Fun Journey to the Moon!
The moon is hard to reach, but we can all marvel at it’s beauty together!
The campus was elaborately decorated as a "Moon Palace" themed playground with a wealth of interesting games, such as "The moon touches the sea!”, "Helping the moon home", "Shaping moon cakes, "Adventure on the moon". From Pre-nursery to K2, children from different levels immersed themselves in playing games and experienced the joy of the festival full of vigor and surprises.
Mid-Autumn Festival - Experience the Customs,
A cultural journey throughout campus
For children, immersive experiences helped to understand the meaning of the festival.
At Newton, we created a Mid-Autumn Folklore Gallery where creative lanterns made by the children and their parents were on display and various Mid-Autumn specialties and autumn seasonal food prepared by our chefs could be tasted while further exploring the exhibits of traditional folklore, handicrafts and games.
In the special gallery, with ancient music as the background, children commented on the various lanterns, took part in interesting folk games and tasted the Mid-Autumn festival foods. It was just like going back to ancient times!
At Newton each festival is a unique and memorable experience that leave a wealth of positive impressions and happy memories with our children!
Wishing all children good health and well-being!
Wishing everyone a joyous family reunion!
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
