*Recycling Initiative**
We all worked together before Earth Day - children, teachers, and parents - to collect old items from our homes for recycling. We sorted them into different bins for recycling at school. The teachers and kids collected a variety of recyclable materials, such as paper, plastic bottles, and milk cartons. They also learned about composting and how kitchen waste can be transformed into something useful for the garden.
Through composting, planting, recycling, and creative reuse of old items, we all learned how important it is to recycle and how old things can be given a new life.
**Fun Earth Day Activities**
On Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22nd, the school was bustling with energy and excitement! The children were dressed in blue and green or in clothes made from recycled materials. Each class had its unique Earth Day theme, and the students participated in various fun activities such as creating art from old things, reading books about the environment, and playing games. It was a day filled with creativity, learning, and enjoyment.
PN-NOT A BAG
**Environmental Actions Inspired by Plastic Bags**
The pre-nursery children may be new to the idea of environmental protection, but they were able to grasp its importance after listening to the story of a little boy in "Somebody Swallowed Stanley". The story follows a boy who helps a turtle that was entangled by a plastic bag and eventually returns it safely back to the sea. The boy also creatively reuses the bag as a kite. This story helped the children understand how plastic bags can harm marine animals and inspired them to protect them.
The teachers then encouraged the children to transform plastic bags into creative, beautiful, and practical eco-friendly bracelets. Additionally, the children worked together to create a giant rainbow net from old plastic bags. They played around and explored creative works made of plastic bags, which allowed them to experience the perfect blend of environmental protection and joy.
N-NOT A PAPER
**Environmental Actions Inspired by Paper**
"What should be done with used newspapers and drawing paper?" The nursery class children, along with their teachers, shredded, soaked, and kneaded old papers into pulp, then mixed it with seeds to create unique "Earth Papers". They carefully nurtured their pulp spheres, eagerly awaiting the sprouting of plant life and experiencing the amazing link between environmental protection and life.
K1-NOT A BOTTLE
**Environmental Actions Inspired by Bottles**
How can we repurpose old bottles to give them a new life?
The K1 students came up with creative solutions by decorating the bottles with colored paper and other materials to turn them into unique art pieces. They also explored other possible uses for the bottles, such as transforming them into musical instruments or game props. By engaging in these activities, the children not only exercised their creativity but also learned about the many ways we can reuse old items. Through fun games and activities, the children gained a deeper appreciation for environmental protection.
K2-NOT A BOX
**Environmental Actions Inspired by Boxes**
Children from the K2 class have used their creativity to make eco-art out of cardboard boxes. By exploring, thinking, and working together, they have transformed old boxes into unique shapes, including school buses, robots, castles, and buildings. This activity has helped develop their hands-on skills and taught them the importance of protecting the environment. Through their work, they have demonstrated the endless possibilities of eco-friendly creativity.
At Newton, all the Earth Day activities encouraged us to do more than just talk about being environmentally conscious. We learnt a lot about ways to take care of our planet. It was a memorable day that reminded us that even small actions can contribute to building a greener future for the benefit of all.
