Children's awareness of music and rhythm begins very early and is one of the first social interactions between mother-child which help to develop early linguistic skills.
At Hui Xin campus, children from ages 2-6 are exposed to music within each class and as both part of the curriculums and as additional CMC music lessons from Nursery age, where Newton students begin to use simple instruments to understand concepts of rhythm, beat and harmony. At the annual graduation ceremony Newton students will sing and perform instrument based performances with drums, bells, shakers and triangles.
Background: A child’s awareness of music begins very early. Infants are comforted by singing and as they make sounds and begin babbling they experiment with different tones and rhythmic patterns. Our students are encouraged to clap, dance, move-around the room, trying out different ways of moving to musical beats and rhythmic patterns. From early age, before children possess the vocabulary to express feelings, through exposure to music they learn to express themselves through rhythm by moving, dancing and feeling the beat. As first steps in learning, students begin to repeat songs and music routines in the class-room and share at home.
