On June 24th at 9:30 Newton Hui Xin foreign section hosted it's 2nd Graduation Ceremony and Summer Concert.
Graduating students from the K2 classes 107, 108 & 109 performed musical, singing and dramatic performances throughout the event and received their diploma's by Hui Xin campus principal Mr. Anders. During the K2 song "Never Stop Learning" photos of each graduate from when they were just toddlers or babies were shown along side their most recent photo in full graduation uniform... The students did very well and it was hard not to be sentimental when seeing how our little angels have grown! and are now ready to move to elementary.
Parent speakers included Frederic Crestia (Chloe's dad from K2 107) and Jacqueline (Julia's mom from K2 109)
who kindly shared their experiences as parents throughout the school year at Newton Hui Xin campus. Additional speeches by both principal Mr. Anders & K2 teacher Ms. Tarryn were presented on the day.
The highlight of this year was of course the concert itself and our wonderful students who were performing. This year, the theme was "The Lion King" and classes performed as one part of their respective levels, with minimal curtain closure and each with wonderful creative video introductions by Hui Xin teachers and K2 students.
A special thanks go out to all the K2 teachers and in particular Mr. Nick Johnstone for hosting the event and being a great Safari guide at the Hui Xin Savannah!

Dear parents,
Welcome to this year's Summer Concert "The Lion King"!
As I get older, time seems to move faster... I can barely believe it has been another year since we were here last... it seems like just a few months. Now another batch of amazing children are getting ready to leave and go to elementary... they will have "home-work" and "tests", It is a big change!... but I know they are ready for it! And I know they are ready today to give all of you, one last, huge, memorable event.
Starting with musical performances, the graduation and finishing with the all out party that is the summer concert.
This year, as something new we decided to let the classes of each level, work together to create one big performance that tie in with the story of "The Lion King". The aim was to give you a more whole experience, but also to bridge classes of similar levels into a combined performance and show children that they are part of a bigger group.
I know we haven't even started yet, but I must thank all our wonderful teachers and students for being so skilled and for coming together to make everything a 100% Newton Lion King, with props, moving panoramas and puppet shows in the backgrounds of each performance... all hand-made! Amazing work!
In a few minutes we will start the K2 performances of the days show, first with an instrument piece and then onwards through singing performances and parent speeches... and graduation ceremony.
About Graduating... My own boy finished kindergarten 2 years ago and I can testify how memorable this day was for both him, his mother and I... at 8 years old, now he does homework every day and no longer seems very interested in play dough, drawing or finding a stick outside... he prefers his ipad most of the time.
However, just a week ago I put on the summer concert from his last year... He almost forgot the ipad in his hand and was looking at the video, remembering all his friends from kindergarten, Jimmy, Joanna, Felipe, Chloe... He actually spoke about them like they were still in class together, like they hadn't gone back to their home countries or changed to other schools. I felt happy! and a little sad!
Because I know nothing beats childhood!
I hope your kids and you will cherish these big events, like today... as much as I do. They take a lot of effort but they make big memories!
Please enjoy the show today!
