Dear parents,
I would like to inform parents of some practical inside / outside play rules at Newton kindergarten. As a kindergarten, we believe that physical play, both inside and outside is of utmost importance and do not wish to limit children's play schedule, which is why Newton students are outside in temperatures from 5 to 35 degrees Celsius.
The child's body is growing and their body temperature is naturally higher than adults. Even on cold days, like we have experienced recently, all the way down to 5 degrees, when wearing proper clothing it is still very healthy for children to play outside (We do kindly remind parents to let children wear warm long-sleeved/legged underwear and good socks to school).
As something new, from August 2016 the Newton apparel will be updated to include rain boots, rain coat and umbrellas for all students, to teach and let children experience the outside environment in all its unique seasons, including walking through puddles of water and using umbrellas (do not worry, we will not bring kids out in cold heavy rain).
The principle of being outside, whenever possible is not only good for the body's resilience but also as an educational principle of "how-to-dress" in different kinds of weather and to "take care of ourselves" when going outside.
PS. Days with high AQI, strong rain, storming etc. are exceptions, children will have limited or canceled outside play on such days.
Let's all stay safe and healthy together!
