Dear parents & students,
It is the last few days of the school year and the Suzhou summer has hit us with force! The previous 2 days we measured 45 degrees Celsius and were only able to have outside play limited to the morning or water-play in the play-plaza water experiment area. Today is looking to be a similar day, beautiful blue skies but hot hot hot! Perfect for cold watermelon, ice-cream and non-heated outside pools. The nurse's advice for the holiday; consume plenty of frozen treats and enjoy lots of water-play!
Two weeks ago we experienced a seasonal stir of children with red dots and/or mouth blisters. The weather was wet, cold/hot and humid interchangeably which always brings a spike in sick-absence. The nurse informed the classes which were quarantined and sent notices school wide. However, at the gate along with campus nurse Ms. Anna we noticed on some days, up to five children would come to school before being found with symptoms of a contagious illness. We strongly urge, all parents during the last few days, the summer camp and next school year to help us out, by doing a quick check for fever/red spots before sending your child to school every day. As an initiative to benefit the entire school, including your children in the coming term we will feature an additional "home-check" paper in the communication book, which parents/grandparents or ayi's are required to tick every morning before sending children to school. It serves as a 1st check by parents from home, followed up by a 2nd check done by our nurse at campus. Together, we will hopefully be able to limit the transfer of contagious illness even further.
Additionally, starting from next term the campus management, will observe which children are running on the corridors or going to the gate unaccompanied by an adult and write on the daily campus check and put a red reminder in the child's school bag as well. We have experienced that it is often grandparents who are unable to keep-up with their grandchild as they exit school, we would like to bring this issue to the attention of all parents and ensure proper safety on the hallways and corridors. Please hold hands if your child cannot walk safely by your side.
On June 22nd and 23rd Hui Xin campus' students and teachers hosted this year's amazing summer concert "The Magical Island of Newton featuring Maui & Moana". I was moved by parent's speeches and the sheer love and support you all exhibited in your amazing children. From behind the stage, I could hear every applause, laughter and feel the emotion in the room. So could Mr. Maui himself, Paul, as he broke a few tears! No matter how strong we are, nothing quiet prepares us for the powerful emotion of realizing our children have grown up, they are independent and eventually will fly away. From the bottom of my heart I thank K2 teachers Paul, Pauline, Fay, Reece, Melon & Yetta. I thank all parents and children and I wish everyone the best in the future, wherever you may go!
