This week we finally welcomed both new and old students back to campus for the start of the 2021-2022 school year!
The beginning of a new year is always filled with excitement; From our youngest new students, who experience their first day of kindergarten to our eldest, who start their final year at kindergarten as the biggest at campus! Every class-room was waiting to be explored, to be inhabited and was quickly turned into a happy home away from home, full of friends and fun!
With only a few tears in the morning most of our new students had been prepared well by their families in advance of the beginning of school and we felt proud to see them put on their bravest face, wave goodbye and walk with confidence through the morning check and into school where they were greeted by teachers and new friends.
In the classes, new students were quickly attracted to the many games and toys. Together with teachers they went exploring their new room and its many function areas while learning the general rules of using the class-room wash area, bathroom and play areas. Of course, the many fun educational toys were a natural way for students to start enjoying what this new place called kindergarten, has to offer and the first hands-on lessons with teachers featured games, music and role-play!
For both new and old students the new and fun outdoor play activities were a big hit! The sand play areas new role-play equipment was fun and children were ready to serve fun "sand"wiches, pretend food and drinks while also using the water-play extension where children could role-play washing dishes and cleaning play equipment after use. On the main playground older children used balancing wheels to strengthen their muscle movement and balancing skills and students had fund constructing a real sized log house out of wooden beams.
Not only new students, but also our eldest students at campus will learn and grow a lot this year. In the campus library K1 children will find amazing stories, full of imagination and incredible drawings and on the little stage they are encouraged to act out small performances and key drama parts of the stories we read. K2 students are the eldest at school and while they have already seen a big growth themselves, they are reminded of the importance to nurture and help the littlest ones, who need help, so they too can grow into confident and capable little adults. To go with the concept of more responsibility, our oldest students planted seedlings in the garden beds to care for during the Autumn season!
While our first week was a brief 3 days only, the seeds have been sown and we are off to a successful start of the year!
We absolutely can't wait to see our students again next week and every week in the coming year where they will continue to grow and keep making daily discoveries. Most importantly, it is the friendships that they make and the memories they share that will stay with them forever...
Have a great year everyone!
Sincerely,
Newton, Hui Xin campus
