Charity Drive & Spring Festival at Newton, Hui Xin campus!
The 2022 Charity Drive and Spring Festival celebrations were held at Newton, Hui Xin campus at the beginning of the year and with love, care and devotion our students, parents and teachers worked together to raise awareness for important charities in the form of meaningful donations all while experiencing the joy of the Spring Festival!
As this is the beginning of a new year, everyone has a chance to start anew, to be a slightly wiser or better person and to learn new things. New Year’s resolutions sets a goal for us to achieve and a course to follow throughout the year and while everyone’s resolutions is their own, we hope that the inspiration of caring, sharing and giving back will stay with you this year and every year to come. Together, can we make a real difference!
“Give Back Box Campaign”
Throughout the first week of the year, from January 1st to 7th Newton families and staff took daily effort to find items at home that could help others with lesser means in need of support and we were overwhelmed by the amazing support and kindness all of our families showed!
On the last day of the “Give Back Box” campaign every child brought in beautifully decorated and labeled boxes full of gifts donated with love. Gifts for the “Suzhou Animal Protection Association” included pet foods, blankets and items to keep animals warm in winter. Toys, stationary and school supplies went for children in need through the “Snow Lotus Education Foundation” and packaged foods were added to the campus charity sales the following week. As campus staff were unpacking and categorizing the donations they were filled with tremendous joy and inspiration, seeing how each box, handmade label and donated item was a gift from the heart, a gift of love from our children to others in need, to friends we have yet to meet.
“Spring Festival Activities”
On January 11th the school was transformed into a playground of Chinese culture for the Spring Festival. Our students came to school dressed in traditional Chinese costumes and around every corner there were performances, dances, shows and fun activities happening for our students to enjoy. On the playground we enjoyed Dragon and lion dances, in the gym room a fun magic and bubble show captivated everyone’s imagination and street vendors, making traditional Chinese foods such as baked sweet potatoes and sugar covered “ice-fruit” sticks helped transform the school into a true Festival!
In the classrooms Newton teachers played traditional Chinese folk games with children and our K2 classes held a plant market where students of the K1 and K2 levels could use their “Newton money” to buy a decorative plant in a pot to bring home for the holiday decorations! It was a fun and cultural day, full of imagination, laughter and high spirit as we prepare to welcome the new year of “The Tiger”!
“Donations and Sales”
Starting from January 11th and finishing on Friday the 14th fundraising for the “Snow Lotus Education Foundation” and “Suzhou Yijiayi Public Welfare Organization”, which provides financial aid and educational resources for children of lesser means in rural areas of China, is taking place at campus and together with volunteers parents, everyone will make direct contributions at the gate and buy one of the many meticulously handcrafted pieces of art made by our teachers, who have poured their heart and soul into making them. The talent on display is truly spectacular! Gift baskets made from the “Give Back Box” campaign donations has been a big hit and is a chance for everyone to both donate while bringing a basket of surprise goodies home for the upcoming holiday.
On behalf of the whole team involved with this big event, we thoroughly look forward to present the proceeds from this year’s Charity Drive to representatives of the “Snow Lotus Education Foundation” and “Suzhou Yijiayi Public Welfare Organization” on Friday when the donations and sales end!
From the bottom of our hearts, we wish to thank every parent, grandparent and teacher for their affection and appreciation. We wish to thank you for helping others and above all we wish to thank you for your tireless cooperation in raising good, kind and giving children who will become, like you, thoughtful and caring adults, who will not sit on the sidelines and ignore the issues of the world, but who will contribute and find purpose in helping and working together to make the world a better place!
