The Snake Embarked with a Cheerful Return to School
With the festive atmosphere of the New Year still lingering, Newton Kindergarten welcomed back families and children to a warm and vibrant campus. The joy of reunion was palpable as children excitedly shared their holiday adventures, showed off memorable moments, and reminisced about the good times.
Amidst the laughter and chatter, they immersed themselves in the fun of "New Year's Wishes," a version 2.0 of the traditional pitching game "Touhu." They tossed sandbags, each carrying a dream, hoping for their wishes to come true. Using snake-shaped fishing rods, they "caught" slips of paper filled with blessings, each one meant to warm their hearts. In the symbolic "Fun Snake" game, they worked together, hand in hand, towards a brighter future. This new semester began not only with the joy of sharing but also with the warmth and preciousness of friendship. Together, they expressed their hopes for the new year, embarking on a new chapter of exciting learning.
A Dazzling Lantern Festival Creating a Unique Experience
For Lantern Festival, we brought traditional culture to life on campus. Using an "immersive experience + creative expression" approach, teachers engaged children in storytelling, and they journeyed through time. They learned about the origins of Lantern Festival and experienced the warmth of folk customs, appreciating the enduring charm of Chinese culture.
This small reunion was not just a journey of cultural inheritance, but also a vivid interpretation of Newton's educational philosophy of "rooted in tradition, facing the future."
Folk Art Meets Children's Ingenuity and Creativity
Round and plump, the little "tangyuan" (sweet dumplings) are adorable. PN children rolled and kneaded clay, transforming it into charming little "tangyuan" in soup bowls. For Lantern Festival and its beautiful lights, K1 and K2 children unleashed their creativity, crafting various fun snake-shaped lanterns and elegant ink-wash lanterns. They hung their creations around campus, admiring them and guessing the answers to their dangling riddles with excitement. PN and N children were also drawn in, admiring the older students’ creations and participating in the riddle-guessing fun.
Frolicking Through the Ages to Play Timeless Traditional Games
What's Lantern Festival without some festive games? We elevated the celebrations with a variety of engaging activities. Children "cooked" a bowl of colorful "tangyuan" and used ladles to scoop them into their bowls. They tossed small "tangyuan", watching them land randomly on blessing grids to receive good luck cards for the new semester. K2 children engaged in exciting games such as "Tangyuan Chopsticks" and "Tangyuan Gomoku," experiencing Lantern Festival through hands-on activities.
Creating Sweet Memories of Cultural Heritage with Little Tangyuan
Nursery children transformed into "little pastry chefs," learning how to turn a grain of glutinous rice into a bowl of tangyuan. They were fully engaged in following their teacher in this festive cooking class. "Education is about bringing culture to life through children's experiences, we believe." As each little "tangyuan" took shape, the essence of cultural transmission became vividly clear.
The Newton kitchen also prepared a colorful fruit "tangyuan" soup, which allowed every child to learn about the traditions and stories of Lantern Festival while enjoying a festive delicacy. Thus, this celebration concluded perfectly.
As each lantern was lit, the spark of culture ignited in the children's hearts. With this warm and profound Lantern Festival event, we demonstrated that traditional cultural education is not a simple "retro performance." Instead, it integrates millennia-old cultural heritage into children's experiences, building a bridge of emotion, fun, and soul between children and the world.
Happy Lantern Festival!
