On Wednesday, August 31st. Ms. Shang Frederiksen, clinical psychologist and Ms. Emilia Saari event coordinator from Parkway medical, Suzhou visited us and presented knowledge on a subject very dear to us and our parents; "How to emotionally prepare children for kindergarten and school life".
The entire theater/auditorium was packed full with more than 150 parents and teachers taking in knowledge from a professionals point of view. Relating to both fundamentals in how the brain learns, how children copy behavior and feelings from surroundings.
We also learned that children can exhibit slightly different personality traits at home and in school. It's possible that children have a fun and enjoyable day at school, capable and independent in the moment.
But once at home in the regular "safe zone" slight doubt might happen and a need to exhibit insecurity about this new place, new people and ones own abilities might occur.
We were secured that it is normal and as Ms. Shang explained, children and grown-ups use and learn learn from an assortment of feelings, we cant always be happy and its ok to feel other ways too, it is common. Being allowed to be a little sad and worried sometimes, might not always be a bad thing, it might in return encourage a growing sense of responsibility and a heightened sense of observance or empathy.
It is important to understand that we learn from all emotions, and how we deal with them are the most important as it helps build emotional resilience.
On behalf of all at Hui Xin campus, we sincerely thank Ms. Shang Frederiksen and Ms. Emilia Saari for putting this wonderful presentation together and allowing a good time for Q & A at the end.
