Dear Parents,
March is a great month! Spring is coming and at the moment of writing this letter, we are busy hosting the two week theme period known as "Festival of Colors", where parents and families come in to teach our children a little about different cultures and traditions from countries both big and small.
Throughout the period March 14th to 25th we have had no less than 81 parents join, presenting countries and regions from Japan, France, Australia, Sweden, USA, Poland, Singapore, Germany, Italy, Belgium, China, Brazil, Mexico, Estonia, Russia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New Zealand, South Africa and more. Children have learned about unique specialties from Sanya, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Hunan while some classes have made Chinese lanterns, Weifang kites, Suzhou fans, French king crowns, painted easter eggs, rolled sushi, colored peranakan costumes, baked Hokkaido cookies, made Mexican sombreo's while also learning about the rainforests of Brazil, waste management in Taiwan and the Asahigawa Zoo of Japan. K1 & K2 levels got together on March 24th and 25th to celebrate their unique class flags, made from colors, shapes, signs and symbols voted by the children and representing each of the five K1 and three K2 classes. The classes had also prepared sandwiches and simple healthy snacks for their afternoon party in the canteen/theater with fun free-style dancing. It was tremendous fun and remains an important part of the experience at school. Again, I have to thank our amazing parents for supporting the theme and taking such an active part in the school life.
On Thursday, March 24th campus nurse Ms. Anna and admissions officer Ms. Cindy brought newly registered families to Kowloon for the mandatory health checks which were successful. Further, through the period March 21st - 25th signs in classes have been changed to reflect the new pick-up times and colored "door tags" have begun being used by teachers of PN & N and students of K1 & K2 to indicate whether a class is inside, outside, gone swimming etc. in order to expand on the concept of "life at kindergarten" and develop a routine transition when leaving the class-rooms. In connection with the Hui Xin campus philosophy I would like to remind parents who might not have noticed the past reminders that from August, 2016 the uniform will include rain boots, raincoat and umbrella's so that on days with just a little rain or wet grass, the children can still be outside and explore the fun of walking through small puddles of water while learning about weather, seasons and developing a better health/hygiene/self-help awareness.
In the near future we have the upcoming open class events where parents are invited to come see and take part in a normal day at school, or as normal as it can get when parents of little children are in the room :). Teachers promise to arrange exercise, games and projects which will include parent-student interaction and it will be a lot of fun. Next week invitations will be sent to every class, listing date and time of the open classes.
On April 1st, the school will accept nominations for "best parked car" and award the winner with a free parking coupon to be spent Monday-Friday from 8:00 - 8:05, wink! wink!. Have a great month of April!
