November, Newton’s campus experiences the changing of the seasons, as autumn and winter alternate, everything changes, but what remains unchanged is Newton's original intention of focusing on educating our students on safety and protection!
On the campus of Newton today, a group of special figures appeared. They were the protagonists of the "Firefighting Month’s Special Operation". These firefighters, as well as the mysterious red fire truck, rushed onto the scene. What kind of special tasks did they have to undertake?
I know a lot about fire safety!
How did the fire happen?
What should I do if it is on fire?
How can I protect myself when there is smoke?
What is the escape route?
Do I still need to bring my belongings in the event of a fire?
For children, fire safety means the learning and mastering of self-protection skills. In the safety theme classes in November, the teachers will discuss with our children preliminary safety knowledge, encourage the children in the kindergarten to observe, search, and learn about the fire protection signs and fire equipment within the kindergarten, and to discuss and practice the best escape routes – all in a fun and active way – which will further deepen their understanding of fire safety.
In children's perception, all colours related to fire safety are related to red. 119 and the fire hydrant signs are red, fire extinguishers, fire engines, and firefighters' clothes, even the colour of a flame is red. Red is also a colour that reminds us to protect ourselves. Let’s create fire-fighting theme paintings together.
Evacuate safely, act quickly
At 10:12 am, November 8, the fire alarm sounded around the campus, and thick smoke emitted from the kitchen.
Don't worry; this was a drill for our fire safety evacuation. The drill was intended so that all of us can respond quickly if an accident really happened. When the siren was heard, the teachers guided the children to the door as soon as possible. Another teacher patrolled all corners of the class to prevent any children from being missed. Under the leadership of the class teacher, the children covered their mouths and noses with small towels, bent over, leaned against the wall and evacuated from the class to the playground in an orderly manner. After 3 minutes, all the classes merged in the playground with different escape routes. The teacher in charge of each floor patrolled all the classes on that floor. The class teacher quickly counted the number of people and reported to the principal to ensure that every child in the class was accounted for.
Q: Will fires only happen in schools?
Answer: The fire may occur in any place. When we are indoors, we must evacuate to an open outdoor place, with adults, as soon as possible, far away from the location of the fire.
Q: What should we do if the car is in danger of catching fire?
School bus evacuation drill
The big yellow school bus has always been loved by children. School bus service is a characteristic service of Newton Huixin. School bus safety education can improve children's awareness of travel safety in general and we see it as another important lesson to teach. The school bus driver showed the children the various safety tools hidden on the school bus, and at the same time opened the mysterious school bus emergency kit, allowing the children to have a better understanding of the name and purpose of each device. When an emergency occurs on the school bus, the driver will park the school bus on the side of the road, open the door and organize the children to evacuate quickly.
Mysterious Fire Truck
When fires and disasters come, in addition to self-help, there is a special group of people who care about everyone's safety. They are fire fighters. Fire fighters are full of superpowers and can help everyone solve all kinds of problems.
The fire fighters, after the evacuation drill, even showed off their shiny trucks! The students got to take turns in boarding the fire trucks and exploring the amazing objects within these fascinating machines!
The fire fighters showed the children their ability to quickly put on clothes and equipment, and carefully introduced the equipment and functions of various parts of the fire truck, such as hoses, helmets, boots, alarms, oxygen supplies, and heavy-duty vehicles. Cutting tools and hammers...each bit of equipment attracted the children's attention. Let us pay tribute to the fire "Supermen"!
Fire Safety Supermen
When I grow up, I also want to be a fire fighter.
Let’s experience being a fire fighter today!
Wear a strong fire-fighting suit and a durable fire fighter hat. Through the explanation and demonstration of the fire fighters the children understood that being a fire fighter is a special profession and bears the responsibility of protecting all of us. Fire-fighting is hard and dangerous. It requires responsibility and dedication.
The best way to learn comes from life experience! "Fire Day" is not only limited to a certain day or month, but also in our every day-to-day detail. Preventing problems before they happen can ensure fundamental safety. Every employee of Newton will, as always, be committed to safety assurance and safety education, so that safety awareness will be rooted in the hearts of children, where they can learn to protect themselves and others, and become a real safety superman or superwoman!
