Newton’s sporting events lasted for an incredible and active four days! The children got to express their creativity by engaging in the many different events that were organized. They had so much fun working with each other and interacting with the sporty environment around them. Most importantly, they got to move around, wiggle and run! All are so important to enjoy a childhood that will lead to amazing lifelong memories, great routines of being active, resilience and being able to overcome challenges!
Shining opening ceremony
On Monday (October 25), the sports week was started with the children’s opening ceremony. The young athletes walked into their sporting environment and became mentally prepared for what the next few days would hold. The excitement was growing!
The first group entering the arena was the nursery children. For most of these students, it was their first time participating in the Newton sports day, they waved their arms excitedly, their smiles as bright as the sun.
Next, it was the K1 children’s time to march out in their soccer uniforms. Each team showed their team name, flag and their team song. You could already witness the team unity! They had a friendly match during the sports week to prepare them for the football matches next week. Let's look forward to seeing the football skills and team spirit developing through the semester!
Finally, the K2 children walked out with confident steps. They wore clothes in various colours representing their classes; groups of energetic teams with different colours of red, orange, blue and green. The scene has been set for an incredible semester of action!
Colorful sports day
On Tuesday (October 26), the K2 children took the lead and had an eventful sports day. They were excited and ready to show their skills. Before the game officially started, the warm-up activities were carried out under the guidance of Mr Paul and the class teachers.
The game "Saving Mario" starts by training the children's jumping skills. Little "Marios" with excellent jumping ability scrambled to collect the gold points with their hands up in the air, they climbed the castle and got the flag by navigating through various obstacles such as the crocodile bridge; The two games of "ice age" and "interstellar crossing" combine the familiar animation characters and scenes from popular children’s stories and integrated the motor skills of walking, crossing and balancing, so that children could experience the happiness and sportsmanship of success through their efforts in a cooperative, challenging and competitive game situation. They were all-stars!
Wednesday and Thursday ushered in nursery’s sports days. The nursery teachers planned games which incorporated interesting fairy tale scenes, "Bunker treasure hunt", "picking while riding", "little bee sending flower seeds", "dancing rainbow umbrella"... Children turned into small riders with extraordinary skills and completed the picking task happily; They came alive as a group of little bees to cross obstacles, and strove to reach the garden as fast as possible in a movement that required balance and climbing; They became treasure hunters and found "treasure" in the sand pool.
In the happy atmosphere, children's laughter became the most beautiful background to the sports day. It was clear that the children had experienced a novel situation that had been brought to them by their first sports day at Newton. Fun and laughter were the winners!
Children got to experience the result of hard work by being presented with Newton medals on their sports day. In the process of each game, they also experienced that everyone is a superhero and they gained the joy of success. The children were extremely willing and excited to participate in sports, meet challenges, and help and encourage each other in the games. The outstanding performance of unity and cooperation modelled that of the Olympic spirit. It sure looks like we have some future Olympians here at Newton!
Next week, K1 children will have their football tournament. They will participate in football matches which will create a perfect end to these sporting events. Please pay attention to the highlights that will be shared on the WeChat group.
Happy Halloween
Friday was the last day of the wonderfully active and spooky week. A grand Halloween celebration was held. The Chinese and foreign teachers teams carefully planned to create Halloween scenes both inside and outside the campus: a giant spider in the library, pumpkin witches in the lobby, pumpkin tree houses under the cherry tree, and the Newton train was covered with spider webs ... an area where parents were able to take pictures with their children and participate in the happiness of the festival.
The Halloween costumes and parades are some of the most wonderful parts of Halloween every year. The children, through their costumes and incredible behaviour throughout the parades, brought both of these aspects alive!
Before Halloween, parents were encouraged to use recycled materials to make Halloween costumes for their children. On the day, children entered the campus as wonderful princes and princesses, scary ghosts, spooky monsters and magical beasts! 20 children were awarded for their most creative DIY costumes. May they become our role models of using recycled materials in our everyday lives! We encourage more and more parents to join them in creating homemade costumes for next year. It was certainly a memorable day for all!
Under the guidance of the teacher, and after having learnt about the customs of Halloween, children were encouraged to imagine and create boldly! It was amazing to see the creepy and mysterious works of art were designed by the children!
Newton's festive atmosphere was not only reflected in the creation of the environment and the activities but also in the children's meals. Our chefs also skillfully conceived and designed themed meals. Children had great fun eating the delicious spider cookies and monster bread; as their taste buds exploded.
At Newton, Halloween is no longer just a scary and wacky costume party, but an environmentally friendly, creative festival of activities that combine all elements of the children's daily life at the campus (from the kitchen to the classroom), giving more meaning to this mysterious festival!
Bid farewell to October and look forward to seeing an even more wonderful Newton in November!
