As the leaves gently change their colors in late autumn and early winter, Newton campus shows its varied and beautiful scenery.
If we observe the miracles of nature with an open and grateful heart every day and every season presents its own treasures for us to explore.
We aim to sow a seed of gratitude towards all things nature in our children’s hearts and minds and endow them with a pair of eyes, able to discover beauty all around while having a full and loving heart.
During the Thanksgiving themed week children learned the meaning of gratitude in various activities and used own actions to interpret stories about gratitude on campus.
Gratitude stories
What is gratitude? “The Thankful Book”, “Give thanks for each day” and ”The Giving Tree” are stories which teaches us the concept of gratitude and love. After reading the books, PN & N children understand the joy of having a friend, how to care for friends and how to get along. K1 and K2 children learned that there are many beautiful things hidden around them that deserves their gratitude. Children said, "Let’s thank the trees for providing us with air, fruits and wood", and "thank teachers, ayis, security guards and chefs for their hard work", we know that they have embraced the meaning of love and gratitude.
Gratitude actions
In children's minds, thanksgiving is about giving thanks and telling our loved ones how much they mean to us. We can do this by sending greeting cards and on this special day, we let children express their love and gratitude in different ways!
Give a hug to your friends, hold hands and dance together, make a heart and write or draw a message on a ribbon and tie to the tree for all to see!
Help everyone, such as collecting fallen leaves with the campus ayi’s, help the chef prepare the turkey stuffing and give a homemade cooke to the nurse, guards and drivers who make and care for our children’s well-being too!
Gratitude gift
In the spirit of giving thanks our students wants to thank their parents the most and did so by making wonderful, beautiful gifts to give at home. During the week Newton campus became a workshop of love. Under the teacher's guidance, Pre-nursery children made creative paintings with water drop. Nursery children collected flowers and leaves, and rubbed them into a dyed handkerchief. K1 children picked up pieces of fallen leaves and created wonderful handmade natural works full of imagination and finally K2 children expressed their thanks by using the paper pulp to create paintings and making woolen pendants.
In addition to bringing thanksgiving gifts home, children promised that they would hug their dear family members, say kind words and blessings, sing a thank you song and be helpful.
Love is shown by what we do every day and it’s not just on Thanksgiving that we express love, gratitude and helpfulness, but it is who we are, always!
See a flower and pick a leaf;
See a star and greet the moon;
See you smile and let’s be friends!
Thank you world, for gifting me with a positive mind!
