Explore the ancient cultural street of “Xietang”
Discovering the beauty of the Mid-Autumn Festival!
The Xietang Old Street is full of history and contains a rich scene of ancient Jiangnan traditional culture. K1 and K2 children walked along the old street and observed it’s unique beauty, while making drawings and feeling the tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival!
Exquisite Lanterns and Ancient Culture
During the Mid-Autumn Festival the street is decorated with a variety of beautiful and colorful lanterns, allowing us to feel fully immersed in the customs and traditions of the holiday!
Children walked through the bustling streets and marveled at the beautiful lanterns while teachers told stories of ancient times and the tradition of hanging lanterns. Together, we found the detailed lotus lanterns, lanterns carried on poles by woman in traditional costumes and a giant lantern in the middle of the street that attracted our gaze. The design of the lanterns were like fairy’s dancing and some resembled the carved window panels of the street. While exploring this unique culture of raising lanterns the Mid-Autumn festival left a strong and memorable impression on the children.
Exploring the Traditional Charm of Old Street
With the characteristic pavilions, stone bridges and flowing water the old street was full of ancient Jiangnan culture and charm. The roofs looked like birds spreading their wings and were amazing to see along with the exquisitely carved wooden doors and windows and delicate winding brick paths. K2 children had fun searching for different windows, lanterns and buildings on the street. With curiosity and courage children walked excitedly through the old street and learned about the characteristics of the ancient architecture of Jiangnan and enthusiastically talked about their findings and achievements with their friends.
Drawing a Picture of Jiangnan Scenery
After feeling the beauty of the ancient buildings and observing the difference between ancient and modern architecture, K2 children recorded the scenery they had seen and reflected on it’s compositions while drawing beautiful pictures with their friends. We believe that the impression of the old street will leave a lasting impression.
Being close to nature & discovering the beauty in the Autumn
Falling Leaves of the Autumn - Nature is a teacher!
Intuitive experiences is a gift to children!
With ripe fruits hanging on the branches of trees and colorful fallen leaves laying a soft crunchy blanket, Baitang park is full of Autumn scenery and our nursery students were invited to learn all about the season from the sights and scent of the park itself!
Discovering the Secrets of Autumn!
As it is the first time to participate in an outing, nursery children were excited as soon as they stepped out of the bus at the Baitang Park. Along the way, they listened to the teacher's introduction of the names and characteristics of different plants with great interest and the trees with different shapes became the teaching props to observe and explore. Children focused on smelling, looking, touching, and opening up their five senses to look for and search for the imprints and secrets of autumn hidden in the plants. The bark of the tree is rough and textured. The tree is tall and the sunlight can barely pass through the dense leaves. While hiding in the Autumn leaves children used their hands to touch and experience the grass and trees and felt the essence of Autumn!
Playing with fallen leaves
In the Mid-autumn, the leaves on many trees have begun to change color and cover the ground. Through a series of fun games featuring Autumn leaves, such as "Find a fallen leaf" where children had to look for leaves in various shapes; "Fallen Leaf Jump" where we used the big umbrella to throw leaves in the air and hiding underneath; "Transporting Autumn leaves" where children had to carry leaves through a course marked by colorful ribbons on the trees... What a joy to play outside with nature’s very own treasures!
Unlocking Nature's Creations
Colorful leaves and fruits are the special gifts of autumn and children with their collection of natural "treasures" made small flower baskets. With imagination and ingenuity, children decorated various flowers and fruits with different fallen leaves and branches, and a unique natural Autumn creation was presented.
Ancient charm, Mid-Autumn culture and beautiful Autumn scenery of this first outing of the year taught our children, through exploration and experience, how to treasure both the history, traditions and nature that we are all a part of and that inspires us throughout life and as we grow together!
