To celebrate the new year, as per tradition, Newton Bayside hosted an annual charity drive. There is no better way to start the year than by gathering together to raise money for those in need and we are happy our community of families can participate. The campus was transformed with red decorations and hanging riddles to an open market place with vendors from all over Suzhou. As families arrived they were greeted by the dragon and lion dancers and Chinese drummer. Inside parents and children could shop around and enjoy a variety of activities such as DIY crafts and basketball training. At the beginning of the day the teachers performed a dance they had specially prepared for the event. After the performances we had a series of game competitions to excite and challenge everyone.
As people snacked and shopped their contribution was received. This year we raised money for a particularly sick young girl whose treatment is very expensive, and her family is quite poor. After adding up all the donations form individuals and vendors we are proud to have raised what should be a helpful amount of money for her.
We are grateful to have so many wonderful and generous families here with us at Newton! This event has been a great way to start the year of the dog and we all look forward to the excitement this year will bring.
From all of us at Newton, Happy New Year and thank you for your continued kindness and support!
