Every child is like a seed, born with strength to break through ground and grow into something truly amazing! November is a season of harvest, and we used this idea as the spirit behind this year’s sports day. With an atmosphere full of “Hope, Vitality, Effort, Bravery, and Tenacity", we hope all of our students can feel empowered to grow up valiantly and not be afraid of difficulties!
Our K1 and K2 students’ class chants could be heard echoing throughout the campus as their teachers lead them into the arena! Our nursery and pre-nursery students were full of curiosity as they entered hand in hand with parents! Parents applauded at the sight of their little athletes dressed up, marching in step, and performing their choreographed cheers! Our students were energized by their parents’ praises and encouragement!
The music blasted and everyone felt the rhythm of the music run through their bodies as they warmed up for the morning ahead. Our students were focused and fierce as they moved in sync with their teachers, inspiring parents to join in the fun!
Energy radiated throughout our sports day arena as parents and students engaged in our warm up games! First, they passed acorns from person to person as fast as they could, then they worked together using rainbow banners to keep giant balls in the air! The air was buzzing with jumping and cheers heard around campus!
Seeds are the hope of all things, small seeds are full of great energy, they to take root and sprout. Our games, designed around the spirit of seeds, not only helped our students to happily engage in fun sporting activities with their parents, but also taught them about seeds and nature.
Seed Parachute: In this game our little athletes bypassed obstacles and climbed over "high mountains" to get to the end where parents helped them to put on parachutes and run as fast as they can hand in hand! The open parachutes in the wind look like dandelions flying to take root!
Seed shooter: Do you know how red beans spread their seeds? When they are mature, bean plants disperse their seeds through the explosive dehiscence of their pods, just like shooters. Our little athletes were playing a bean game where they were also small seed shooters! Well done friends!
Sticky seeds: The competition between the K1&K2 students was in full swing, our nursery and pre-nursery competitors were not to be outdone. They took baskets, crossed hurdles, walked the balance beam, and picked the seeds dangling from vines and then tossed them to their parents. As it turns out, some seeds spread by sticking to others.
Seeds Matching: Every seed comes from a parent plant. What does the parent plant of a sunflower seed look like? What about a pumpkin or watermelon? In this fun game, our players, and their parents, helped all of the seeds find the seed parents. Although they were a little nervous when walking on the balance beam, with the company and encouragement of their parents, no one was left behind, through teamwork, every seed found its parent.
Defend the Seeds: After helping the seed find its parent plant, the little athletes received a "Seed Rescue
Mission". The sneaky mole stole the seeds and potatoes, so the students used wheel barrows to maneuvers
around hay bales and try to steal the potatoes and seeds back from the sneaky mole and bring them back to the
farm!
At the end of the day, the games were over and we were reminded of all we had seen that day. From the tenacity and bravery of the players to the encouragement and applause from parents to the unity and teamwork displayed by everyone who attended the games!
After a day of playing games together with their children, then parents faced off in a game of their own! Whether it was the tug-of-war of our K1&K2 parents or the hot wheels competition of our nursery and pre-nursery parents, everyone went all out! This time it was the parents that were encouraged by the cheers of their little ones! Hip! Hop! Hooray! There were no losers in our parents matches, every parent was a winner and our playground was full of laughter and happiness!
We Are the Champions blared on the loudspeaker as our sports day came to an end. Moms and Dads awarded their competitors with medals, engraved with a memory of the day. Our little athletes’ sweet smiles and pride was a beautiful sight to see!
On this beautiful Autumn Day, our Sports Day wasn’t just for our students, but a day for friendship and bonding! Nothing is as sweet as time parents can spend with their children playing in the sunshine. Our imaginative seed themed Sports Day has come to an end, but our seed spirit will continue to carry forward. Let's continue to make unremitting efforts to keep growing ......
