Ding dong, lets ring in the year of the dog! To celebrate the 2018 new year the Bayside Newton campus had a dumpling making activity. Tomorrow everyone will begin their two week holiday, but before we all go our separate ways we decided it would be nice to come together with the making of food. The dumpling is a traditional food to eat for the new year and a fun skill for the children to learn. In the pre-nursery and nursery classes we kept it simple by teaching them how to roll sticky rice balls. Each kid was given to different beautiful colors of dough and shown how to use their two hands to roll the dough into a ball. Each child had their own container to take home what they made and enjoy it with their family. In the K1 and K2 classes the kitchen prepared the meat and vegetable filling and children were shown how to use dough to fill and form the dumplings. When the children finished their fun the dumplings were sent to the kitchen to be cooked up and enjoyed for lunch.
It is events like this that make Newton a unique and special place. We want to teach children how to enjoy each others company, try new things, and respect traditions. This activity was a great way to start the new year and begin a relaxing and joyous holiday.
From all of us at Bayside, Xin Nian Kuai Le, Happy New Year!
