People Longing for family members
With the gratitude and satisfaction to this wonderful harvest season
The annual Mid Autumn Festival is upon us when the fragrance of laurel in the air of Suzhou city is mixed with the sweet taste of moon cakes. There is a saying in the ancient times that "worship the sun in spring and the moon in Autumn". Since the Autumn Equinox Day is regarded as the traditional "Moon Festival", now the Mid Autumn Day is originated from the traditional festival of offering sacrifices to the moon. The Mid Autumn Day is a traditional festival in China, which represents reunion and auspiciousness. The Chinese nation has a long history of more than 5000 years, which has accumulated into profound cultural heritage. In order to help children fully understand the customs and culture of the Mid Autumn Festival, as well as to make the seeds of traditional culture to take root in children's hearts, Newton Bayside campus has carried out a series of theme activities to celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival. Let's start a wonderful celebration journey with our children.
Infiltrating in the atmosphere of picture books, and wandering in the palace of poetry.
Despite their young ages, under the guidance of the teachers PN and Nursery children listened carefully to the story of "the Moon Girl Making Clothes", and watched the video of picture book story "Lady Chang'e Flying to the Moon" and they have got the ideas of the customs of the Mid Autumn Festival. “As the bright moon shines over the seas, from far away you share this moment with me”, “Now the ancients could never see the moon again, which once shed its silver light upon them”. There are many poems about the moon in Chinese literary history. Ancient Chinese poets expressed their joys and sorrows by poetic verse in depicting the moon. K1 and K2 children had a poetic Mid-Autumn Festival by appreciating and learning ancient poems. Through interesting activities children not only enjoyed the festival atmosphere, but also experienced the reunion and warmth of Newton family.
The moon makes the feeling visible, and the music makes the blessing vividly
The PN and Nursery children with traditional Chinese costumes had an interesting "Rabbit Dance" with teachers. They felt the magic rhythm of the music and expressed their happiness by dancing. K1 and K2 children's great performance, rich expression and tender voices made everyone feel the charm of classical songs and dance. The moon makes the feeling visible and our beautiful song and dance performance makes the blessing vividly.
The first step of making the moon cake is kneading and pressing the dough by hands, and packing the stuffing, holding the skin with one hand, and pinching the dough tightly along the edge of the skin. The second step is to put the wrapped dough into the model, press it, and then to knock it out. The last step is to put the moon cake into the packaging box, to seal it with the cover, and to paste your own designed label. Fresh and sweet ice skin moon cake is ready for eating. "Sweet moon cakes always transcend the beauty of the Moon", children tasted their own moon cakes and the small moon cakes have carried out infinite blessings and gratitude to all Newton people.
Through the communication and interaction with teachers and peers, the children learned about the origin and customs of the mid autumn festival through practical operation and personal experience. The theme activities helped the children learn to share and cooperate, and feel the happiness of family reunion and integration in Newton Bayside campus. The activities were wonderful and enlightening. The children also learned the essence of Chinese traditional culture, which helped the healthy growth of themselves. "people talk about the sweet life with autumn breeze in the full moon time". Here all the teachers and staffs of Newton Bayside campus wish you a happy Mid Autumn Festival and family reunion!
