Dear parents,
These past weeks we have experienced consistent high levels of pollution. Today the pollution stayed around 250-260 according to the Air Quality Index.
Everyone worry about the pollution and the health risks, while also acknowledging that children need to leave their classrooms, move, exercise and change environment.
Following updates will be implemented effective immediately:
- If we experience three consecutive days with AQI above 150 (limited outside play), from the 3rd day all outside play will be cancelled for as long as the AQI remain above 150. This is a stricter standard than previous where outside play would only be completely cancelled when AQI was above 200.
- Most importantly we need parents' help and consideration to make wearing masks on days with heavy pollution a priority. Much the same way that we bring an umbrella, a scarf or gloves to be prepared for the weather, we kindly ask that you help your child do the same with face masks. (If you do not know where or what to purchase our nurse sells both 3M masks and wash-able masks).
If your child has a face mask, please name-tag it and write in the communication book for your teachers that it should stay at school.
- Teachers will have a lesson this week about wearing proper clothing and being prepared for going outside. This training will emphasize the face mask with an aim to make it a common daily accessory.
Sincerely,
Hui Xin Nurses, teachers and management
