As the weather is changing and autumn begin to turn into winter we mark a special occasion on November 9th (11/9) where we learn about fire safety and when to dial the "119" emergency services. As years before we use the week of 11/9 to teach fire prevention and educate children in what to do in case of an emergency through campus wide activities that allows our students to use their experience, stay calm and avoid panicking in face of an emergency situation!
Fire trucks at campus!
Exploring the secrets of a fire truck
On Nov. 7th we welcomed two big and shiny red fire trucks with their heroic crew of firefighters to campus. As they slowly rolled into our parking area children were excited and surprised to see these iconic vehicles up close.
Together with the firefighters children explored the hoses, helmets, boots, sirens, oxygen masks, cutting tools along with all the gear, equipment and secret functions of the fire truck!
The wonderful firefighters introduced the use of all the fantastic and lifesaving equipment and did a demonstration of how they prepare to go fight fires! Along with getting to hold and feel some of the equipment children learned what it is like to board a fire truck, hear the sirens and watch the lights go round and round! It was an amazing experience that caught the attention of all the children.
What to do when you hear the fire alarm!
Fire emergency drills at campus
What to do when the fire alarm rings?
In case of fire or when hearing the fire alarm stay calm and listen to your teacher.
Identify the green safety signs and follow the arrows to the nearest emergency exit.
Bend down, cover your mouth and nose as to avoid breathing in the smoke which rises upwards.
With the sound of the fire alarm the entire campus did a fire emergency evacuation drill where K2 children followed teacher's instructions to evacuate to the playground in a fast and orderly manner in accordance with what they have been taught in the safety/emergency lessons.
The K2 class' fire evacuation drill was successfully completed in 2 minutes and 39 seconds!
While this was luckily just a drill, practices like these build essential experience and knowledge that help protect valuable life!
Firefighting games!
The little firefighters were called out
Watching the magical fire trucks and meeting the fire fighting heroes led to a game where children "turned theory into practice and knowledge into action" as we witnessed a brand new batch of brave fire fighters spring into action and save the day!
Fire Safety Knowledge
I'm a little fireman.
Fitness Battle
During the fire safety week at campus teachers and children learned important safety skills, knowledge and know-how through themed lessons that included identifying fire and warning signs as well as finding firefighting equipment around campus. We sang fire safety songs, played games, did firefighter role-plays and learned to protect ourselves through daily training activities.
The best way to learn is through life experience and the skills learned during the "fire safety week" are essential life saving skills that will be reinforced regularly at campus as we teach children to cherish, protect and respect life through safety awareness.
May the wings of fire emergency knowledge keep you safe as you fly high in the sky!
