Human Norovirus Diarrhea is caused by Norovirus and it mainly causes the nonbacterial diarrhea outbreaks. The virus once in the body will manifest quickly. It can spread rapidly and widely.
Norovirus is mainly transmitted through the fecal-oral route, but it can also be spread via dirty hands, food or water. The causes of infection are: eating and drinking norovirus contaminated food, water or drinks; contact with norovirus contaminated objects or surfaces, and then hand to mouth contact; direct contact with an infected person, such as taking care of the patients, and having the same meal or tableware with the patients. It should be noted that this norovirus infection mostly affects 3-5 year old children. Some adults are carriers of norovirus, but they won’t get sick because their natural defenses are strong. However, adults can carry the virus for 2 weeks and transmit to children during these 2 weeks.
The most common symptoms of infection are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, fever, headache and other symptoms. The most common symptoms among children are vomiting and nausea. Most adult patients will have diarrhea and rarely vomiting. The course of this disease is generally 2-3 days. The disease is a self-limiting disease. It can go away on its own and therefore does not require special treatment.
To prevent norovirus infection, it is recommended to take the following measures:
(1) Maintain good eating habits. Do not eat raw food(such as seafood, salad); do not eat bad, dirty, cold or pickled food; food can be eaten after it has been boiled for at least 15-20 minutes.
(2) Develop good personal hygiene habits. Wash hands frequently and frequently cut nails. Wash your hands with soap and water before eating or handling food. Wash hands thoroughly after using the toilet or handling vomit and feces.
(3) Timely medical treatment. If any symptom occur, such as vomiting, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms, go to the hospital as soon as possible. Do not make contact with friends and family and do not go to crowded public places in order to reduce the chance of infection.
