Teamwork, athleticism, agility and fun were the highlights of this year's student Sports Day. Due to weather related issues we rescheduled the event, which is usually in the Fall, to this Spring. We sure are glad that we did because the weather was wonderful with a shining sun and not a cloud in the sky.
The events for our Pre-Nursery and Nursery levels took place on Thursday April 27th and for our K1 and K2 on Friday April 28th. Both days students gathered in the morning with their classes and paraded in front of their parents, marching like little olympians. When all classes were presented the parents joined their children to practice the morning exercise. It was great fun watching parents dance with their kids and learn more about the things they do in their daily kindergarten routine. Next the students sat down on the sidelines as the parents competed in a wild game of Tug-A-War. Newton has many strong parents and the competition was fierce. After the victors were rewarded the classes marched off to begin the student's games. Around the campus we arranged 4 different games for the sports competition. Carefully designed by the teachers and staff the games tested students' coordination, speed, accuracy, balance and cooperation. Some of the games the parents were able to get involved and play too and in some they were able to watch and cheer from the sidelines. After all the classes completed all the games we held a small award ceremony where each student was awarded a gold medal for their efforts and participation.
It was a day full of smiles, laughs and fun competition. Newton is lucky to have so many strong kids who continue to grow and achieve new things. Sports day is a great way to show off athletic talents and and see all the progress the students are making. Each year this event is a memorable experience for students and parents, and this year was no exception. We are grateful for all the parents who were able to participate and look forward to more cooperation and fun in future Newton events!
