Today was a special day at the Newton Bayside campus as we celebrated Dragon Boat Festival.
Throughout the week teachers have been talking to children about the traditions and stories surrounding this festival. Children looked at pictures of dragon boat races and the delicious sticky rice wraps. On the last day of the week, Thursday June 6th classes made special themed crafts.
Pre-nursery and nursery kids made the scented satchels and K1 and K2 made different style dragons use craft paper and a lot of creativity!
To also make this day special a few parents and grandparents from each class were invited into help make the zong zhi. Children walked around the school to see the adults hard at work. They made two kinds of flavors, we had a meat and a sweet red bean with a date inside. We have so many talented parents who made the beautiful treats!
It is good to keep these traditions alive and we hope that at home the children can learn more about their unique culture.
The school will be closed on Friday June 7th to celebrate the holiday. We hope that everyone has a happy and safe long weekend!
