Dear parents
Following the latest infectious diseases prevention guidance of Suzhou government, we have entered a season in which norovirus infectious diarrhea and flu(influenza) are particularly prevalent and we must therefore pay extra attention to their prevention.
Norovirus infectious diarrhea is one type of diarrhea caused by norovirus. It has the characteristics of rapid onset, rapid transmission and wide range. It is the main cause of most nonbacterial diarrhea outbreaks.
Norovirus:
Norovirus diarrhea is a viral gastrointestinal disease caused by the norovirus, occurring frequently in winter and spring. The incubation period is on average 24-48 hours, the shortest period being 12 hours and the longest period being 72 hours. The main symptoms are nausea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Vomiting is more common among children while a greater proportion of adults experience diarrhea. It an infection of the digestive tract which presents with acute onset of diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. The transmission route for norovirus is through close person-to-person contact with infected persons, contaminated food or water, or contaminated surfaces or objects. The mode of transmission is fecal-oral or vomit-oral. The norovirus is a common, highly contagious intestinal infectious disease. It spreads quickly and easily in crowded places or places where people congregate making most people easily susceptible. At present, norovirus antibody has no significant protective effect.
Flu (influenza)
During the period where winter turns into spring and the temperature difference between day and night is substantial, people are easily susceptible to the influenza. Influenza, commonly referred to as the flu, is an acute respiratory infection caused by the influenza virus. It has an incubation period of 1-3 days. The main symptoms are high fever, headache, runny nose, sore throat, aching muscles, fatigue and discomfort. The elderly, children and those with lowered immune systems are more easily susceptible to flu-like diseases that mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract.
