Every idea that cares for the Earth is worth holding onto.
Every heart that cares for the Earth is worth cherishing.
Every small action that cares for the Earth is worth encouraging!
Newton bayside campus has celebrating Earth Day as our unique themed festival for 16 years! At Newton Kindergarten, nature conservation education is one of our distinctive educational features. In addition to daily environmental education activities, we hold an annual "Earth Day themed series of events" to ignite children's passion for environmental protection in the name of the holiday.
In the 2023 World Earth Day, we lead children to explore energy-saving methods and behaviors that they can implement, a cup of water, a piece of paper, a kilowatt-hour of electricity all matters.
What would happen if there is no water, electricity, and paper on Earth?
Do you know how paper is made? Where does electricity and water come from?
What are some good methods you have used at home to conserve water, electricity, and paper resources?...
To look for the answers, children start their investigation from "one cup of water, one sheet of paper, and one unit of electricity". With parents’ help, the children learned that these seemingly insignificant small resources have a great impact on the earth.
Teachers combined picture books related to water, electricity, and paper, such as "Where Does Water Come From", "Little Seeds", and "After the Power Outage", to generate theme activities that are full of scientific mysteries, allowing children to learn about energy conservation and recycling secrets through exploration and practical activities.
Based on the picture books, teachers have designed a water purification science experiment, a handicraft recycling activity using paper, environmental posters, and Earth Day promotional handicrafts...Through various interesting operational activities, the children have experienced the process of turning wastewater into clean water and transforming used paper into treasures. They have also created their own posters and handicrafts to encourage more people to join the action of care for the earth.
In the Earth Day theme curriculum, we incorporate diverse exploration of caring for the earth, such as reducing environmental pollution, animal protection, and recycling. We guide children to recognize the importance of caring for the earth through the five senses.
Prior to Earth Day, we launched the "7-Day Environmental Protection Check-in for Caring for the Earth" initiative through the Caring for the Earth Program, calling on all Newton families to combine their daily green actions and participate in environmental protection activities to care for the Earth. We are impressed by photos and videos from Newton families. Children are encourage to share and discuss their check-in records, to review the action has been taken.
Let us start from small actions in our daily lives, together holding onto our commitment to environmental protection, and illuminating a beautiful future.
