From this school year, Newton Hui Xin campus is offering its own unique social educational perspective on the Lego Education Program, which is supplied by LEGO inc.
The Lego Education sets provide a wonderful introduction into the world of construction, building and creating. K1 & K2 students at Hui Xin will learn to make pinwheels, cars, ships, houses, bridges and more. They will learn the skills of comparison, measuring and identifying building blocks as they prepare for assembly. Further, students of the Lego program will develop a keen sense of how to follow an illustrated assembly guide to create things out of Lego.
This year, the LEGO program is hosted by Hui Xin foreign teacher Mr. Milos who will use English as an instructional language and emphasize key-words and phrases as children explore their passion in creating miniature versions of objects from our everyday life.
On Monday, September 4th the K2 group learned about spinning wheels, pinwheels and windmills. They explored the concept by looking at an electric fan and how gears, friction and wind allows the wings to rotate. The rotational force in a wheel can be used to move objects or help get water from a well.
Children assembled their own pinwheel out of lego bricks and blocks, with a special gear head and wings. It was a lot of fun!
