Focus on the Future
Newton encourages children to immerse themselves in nature, give back to the earth and receive a green education, giving them the building blocks needed to create a more sustainable world for the future.
Every plant, tree, flower, piece of fruit, bird, and insect in nature has a story if you look close enough. Their stories change with the seasons, and learning these stories through their own eyes helps broaden young children's minds. Every time they connect with nature, every opportunity they have to observe and study something in its natural environment nourish's not only their lives but their curiosity, desire to explore, and their compassion for all living things. Our young children develop the character, aptitude, and vivacity needed for the future through these interactions with nature.
Newton follows the principles of a green curriculum and breaks through the concrete barriers and lack of nature experienced by children living in the city. In the small world of kindergarten's campus, we invite the natural elements around us, providing our students channels to explore nature. By creating an intellectually stimulating ecological environment, we've given them diverse opportunities to connect with the environment allowing them to become the protagonist of every activity, to explore, discover, and grow.
Newton Bug Hotel
A miniature paradise
We created a bug hotel to provide a safe, sheltered environment for bugs and insects to live in. Bug hotels offer children a handful of learning opportunities; it is an excellent project for children to be involved in and learn more about their natural environment.
Our Nature and Ecology Room A place to explore the elements
"Nature as a book, nature as a teacher." Our Nature and Ecology classroom allows children to collect and investigate a wealth of natural materials and partake in environmental protection courses, broadening their horizons and accumulating life experiences. Interacting with natural objects enhances their perception of the beautiful world around them and provides opportunities for natural artistic creation. Our intention with this classroom is for teachers and children to have an inviting atmosphere for creating arts and crafts with raw materials.
Recycled and Upcycled Crafts
Giving old things new life
In the recycling and upcycling area of the school, materials such as bottles, cans, cartons, tires, old clothes, pots, and pans of various sizes, shapes, and materials are used to improve children's creativity and artistic abilities. In this new area of old things, children turn old things into works of art and old clothes into useful items like reusable bags; waste gets a new life in the hands of our teachers and children.
Green Curriculum
Taking advantage of the plants on campus
The flowers and trees on campus look different with the changing of the seasons. Our students get to touch and observe these differences in their daily activities. They can see how the orange tree flowers and then grows fruit that ripens, the four seasonal changes of the ivy growing up the wall, the sweet-scented Osmanthus that blooms overnight, the different colors and stances of the chrysanthemums, the various shapes and sizes of the fallen leaves on the ground, and branches that are thick, thin, long and short. Our philosophy about being eco-friendly is carried out by a series of green curriculum activities where our students are immersed in nature and all that they can learn from it.
Eco-friendly Paraphernalia
Integrating natural materials into game
We choose more natural materials such as stones, shells, leaves, branches, and seeds in our learning centers instead of plastic game materials. The use of natural and raw materials in games and toys provides more visual and sensory experiences to children and stimulates their imagination, exploration, and innovation.
Facing the future
All-natural materials are used to create works of art by the students at Newton. Our students' hands breathe new life into donated waste, useless or unwanted materials. Every flower, plant, and insect at Newton is a source of learning for our students. Newton's environmental education supports young children's affective and cognitive growth. Nature-rich settings and experiences are essential in early environmental education, helping children create a better world for their future.
